How to make chinese name official?

Question

I was born and raised in china, though I am Caucasian by ethnicity.

I have an unofficial chinese name (林美丽) but I'd like to make it official.

How do I do this?

Can I put it on my existing hong kong identity card?

I can not say what is the process in mainland China but in Taiwan as a foreign spouse of a ROC citizen you would have to make a formal declaration to the government to have a Chinese name that meets ROC convention in order to be allowed to be in the household register (my wife is Taiwanese). My friends believe mainland China has something similar but my friends are not sure. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
