How to make dotted lines in illustrator?

I'm using Mac and CS3.

I only need a simple straight dotted line.

Define the line with the line segment tool. In the stroke palette, set the width of the line. Show Options. Click on the Dashed Line Option. Define the length of the dash and spaces.

its a tutorial. it might be a little different depending on what version you have.

Go to Window or View menu and find STROKE. If it only shows the stroke value, click the drop menu on the right side of the bar and it will say "show options" and click that. There is a box to click for dashed line. :)
