I have a wok pan (or whatever they are called), rice, onions, corn and oil. I figured I have enough to make some fried rice or is there more that I need?

  1. Fried Rice

    1 tablespoon vegetable oil

8 medium green onions, sliced (1/2 cup)

    1 clove garlic, finely chopped

    1 1/2 cups water

    1/2 cup barbecue sauce

    1 tablespoon soy sauce

    1 frozen mixed vegetables

    2 cups uncooked instant rice

1 barbecued pork tenderloin, cooked and cubed (optional)

    1. Heat oil in 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Cook onions and garlic in oil about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onions are crisp-tender.

    2. Stir in water, barbecue sauce, soy sauce and vegetables. Heat to boiling; remove from heat. Stir in rice and pork. Cover and let stand about 5 minutes or until liquid is absorbed.

    Enjoy!

  5. Here's the OFFICIAL Hawaii style fried rice recipie... you don't need a wok.   Also I don't measure when I cook.   It's obvious that you won't ever find me on here giving answers about baking!

    Bacon

    Japanese White Rice (sticky rice)

    Onions

Aloha Shoyu (Soy Sauce).. order it online.. it's the BEST SOY SAUCE!

    Eggs

    Green Onions

Cook Rice in a rice cooker 1 day in advance.  1 day old rice is required to make good fried rice.  Otherwise the contents are too sticky and mushy.

First scramble and cook your eggs separately other wise they'll turn brown when you add the soy sauce to the rice.

    Chop bacon into small pieces

Fry bacon to a crispin a cast iron plan.  Drain the pan from bacon fat - only leave about 1 tablespoon of bacon oil in the pan.

Add chopped onion, cook til transparent

    Add Cooked Rice, stirring frequently

Add Aloha Shoyu *add to taste

    Cook for 3-5 minutes

    Add Egg... and mix

Serve and add green onion as garnish

    DELICIOUS!  Enjoy!

**as a variation you can add frozen peas or substitute bacon for spam.  Most people on the mainland won't eat spam but it's a staple in Hawaii.   Everyone eats spam in Hawaii.

The type of rice is important, so make sure you find premium Japanese rice.  (Nishiki is preferred)   I've seen Japanese rice in the 5lb bag at Walmart and Target too....

  6. Here is how I have done it for years (simplified a bit)! Take some eggs and some oil in a pan with some salt and pepper cook eggs till almost done like scrambled eggs take out of pan (clean up the pan a bit if needed) then cook your veggies then add cold cooked rice (you can just take rice cook it and throw it in the freezer for a bit and while it is cooling prep veggies and such) a dash of mirin (sweet cooking wine) a good bit of soy sauce (make sure it is soy sauce and not hydrolyzed soy protein) and some butter (if you have garlic butter even better) then cook it till rice is tender and a bit fried add the eggs back in stir and enjoy. I am more than happy to provide a better more concise recipe just PM me for details
