  1. HOMEMADE VANILLA ICE CREAM

    2 qts. half & half

    6 eggs

    6 c. sugar

    1 c. flour

    Some vanilla extract

    Some milk

    Ice cream maker

    2 (10 lb.) blocks crushed party ice

    1 box rock salt

    Mix sugar and flour by hand real good. Put under mixer on medium power. Add eggs. Then slowly pour half of half and half in at a time. Mix about 2 minutes. Add 5 capfuls of vanilla extract or to desired taste. Pour in ice cream freezer and top off with milk. Add lid and churning paddle. Carefully put in ice cream barrel and insert motor, turn on motor and add ice around sides then use rock salt to freeze the ice. NOTE: Read directions of ice cream maker before use.

  5. The Best French Vanilla

    9 oz sugar

    8 egg yolks

    3 cups half and half

    2 tsp pure vanilla extract or 1 whole vanilla bean scraped

    1 cup heavy whipping cream

    Beat eggs and sugar together thoroughly (mix should look almost white)

    heat half and half and cream over low heat until bubble just start to break the surface.

    Temper cream mixture (add very slowly) into egg mixture whisking or beating continuously until both are together.

    Put mix back onto heat (if using bean add scrapings and bean now) and heat over medium low heat until mixture reaches 170 degrees or coats back of spoon.  

    Strain into bowl and let sit for 30 minutes then add vanilla. (if using vanilla bean, remove bean and skip this step).

    Chill for at least 4 hours (8 is better) in fridge

    Use whatever ice cream maker is available and follow its instructions.  

  6. HOMEMADE VANILLA ICE CREAM

    There is no dessert more delicious than old fashioned homemade ice cream flavored with pure vanilla.

    1/2 c. sugar

    1 tbsp. Arrowroot

    1/4 tsp. salt

    4 egg yolks

    2 tsp. pure vanilla extract

    2 c. heavy cream

  7. Homemade Ice Cream

    Total Time: 30 min

    Makes: 2 qt.

    Ingredients:

    Ice cream freezer/maker (2 qt.)

    1 egg

    1/3 cup sugar

    2 tsp. vanilla extract

    1/2 tsp. lemon extract

    1 1/3 cup milk

    2/3 cup cream

    1-2 cups rock salt

    Preparation:

    Mix all ingredients together.

    Pour into 2-qt. ice cream freezer. Fill outside bucket with ice, rock salt, and water till it is over the fill hole.

    Run or crank ice cream freezer for approximately 20 minutes or until contents are frozen (for soft serve).

    Notes:

    This recipe has been reduced to fit into a 2-qt. ice cream freezer. I use an old hand crank one. It's just right for 2-6 people
