1. BUBBLES

1/2 cup of liquid dish washing liquid OR liquid hand soap

1/2 gallon of water. Mix together gently so it doesn't foam up. You can add in 1/2 teaspoon of glycerin if you want to make the bubbles shiny but it isn't necessary. Store in something with a tight lid.

Clay I don't know but playdough is easy. 2 cups of water, 1/2 cup of salt, 1/2 tablespoon Cream of Tartar (in your bake/spice aisle at most grocery stores), food coloring (optional) 1 1/2 cups of flour. Boil water, reduce heat at boil. Add in salt and cream of tartar. Whisk until dissolved. Stir in food coloring if you are wanting colored dough.Remove from heat and add flour. Stir until dough forms. It will happen fast and be a little rubbery and very soft. Let cool 15 minutes and then turn out on a floured surface and knead smooth. Store air tight for about 2 weeks.

sidewalk chalk is easy to do as well. You need empty toilet paper tubes and a cheap disposable pan to stand them up in. Duct tape the tubes so they are verticle and nothing can leak from the bottom. Mix the plaster in small amounts (about 1/2 cup at a time) and add food coloring in to color it. Pour into the tubes and let set over night. Peel the cardboard away and let it sit another 24 hours to harden. Use outside like you would other chalk.

    Finger Paint-

You can make your own edible paint. You can buy cheap vanilla pudding cups OR buy a package of INSTANT vanilla pudding and separate into different bowls. Color it with drink mix or food coloring. A little color goes a LONG way as it will be quite vibrant with little added. Use like regular paint on paper. If fingers get licked it's no biggie- it's pudding!

My son, a year and half, also loves these (and a 2 yo would probably love it too):

A shallow plastic bin filled with some cornmeal or popcorn kernels to play with sand toys in like an indoor sand box for rainy days.

take empty plastic jars (like from peanut butter or similar things, labels removed) and put interesting things in them. Ping pong balls, some plastic animals, buttons etc.. They make great curiosity jars to look at. if you put things in that they can't choke on and leave the lids on but not too tight it's good to see if they can get the lid off to get the object out.

if you have large empty boxes, fold two ends in and hook together with duct tape and make a tunnel to play in. Good for hours of fun. You could also build a fort with a card table and blanket Or use chairs.

get some wooden painted objects at a craft store. They come in all sorts of shapes and animals for $1 or less each. Buy 2 of each. Mount one of each on a board or sturdy surface. Take the matches and see if your child can match them up.

Roll up mis matched socks and set up an empty laundry basket or clean empty bucket. can they toss them into the bucket/basket?

Fill small plastic containers with tight sealing lids with seeds or beans and make music shakers to dance with.

Hide and seek is fun and they love trying to find mommy or daddy at this age. Just don't hide in too hard of a place for them :)

My son loves those annoying little tear out cards from magazines. I got him a play mail box and he loves using them to play mail man with. He puts them in and out of the box and brings them to me and his daddy pretending to deliver mail with them.

take a magazine that is child appropriate and see if he can find things that you name on the pages. "Let's find a ball" "Let's find something blue" "lets' find a dog" "where is the chair" etc...

Great for building vocabulary and they have fun hunting for the different things.

bath crayons are always a blast in the tub at this age. They wash off pretty easily too.

roll or bounce a ball back and forth.

eat lunch or snack outside on a blanket one day and have a picnic.

Use an old blanket or flat sheet. Fold it into a large square. Have your toddler sit so their back is to you on it. Grab the two corners and have them lean back and pull them. I don't know why, but kids this age LOVE this. They will giggle and delight in it.

tape the openings of empty cereal boxes, granola bar/fruit snack boxes, empty oatmeal containers, empty butter cups or boxes etc... Let them play with them. My son loves this. He'll sort them, bin them, roll them, stack them etc... They are loads of fun and a nice way to recycle what would be trash- at least for awhile.
