  1. Beth is exactlly correct!  BUT keep in mind, just because you put out a hummingbird feeder doesn't mean you will attract hummingbirds if there aren't any in your area as there isn't any in my area. . . . darn!

  2. In the wild hummingbirds drink nectar that is about 21% sucrose, and the closest you can come to that is to mix one part white cane sugar to four parts water.  In other words, you could pour a half-cup of cane sugar into two cups of water.

Good luck! I love hummers ^_^

  3. The standard ratio is one part sugar to 4 parts water. Bring the water to a boil, add the sugar, remove from the heat, and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Cover the syrup and let it cool completely before filling clean feeders. It is not necessary to add any coloring to the syrup. The red on the feeders will attract the hummers just fine! Keep the syrup fresh. I've found the best way to keep our feeders clean is to invest in a bottle brush specifically for feeders and use hot water with a bit of white vinegar in it. Scrub well, rinse thoroughly, and enjoy watching your new little friends!

  4. Not a good idea, sugar water lacks nutrition.
