  1. have no idea--- but  it sure is good.

buy it  frozen and add your own sauce.  you can make it as you wish, and overall it will taste  homemade.  i like to add more bean paste and mushrooms.

    bon apetit!

  2. This is one of my favorite noodle dishes (besides mool nang-myun).  I get lazy and buy it pre-made with the sauce packs.  :D

    Jja jang Myon

    8 oz pork, small diced

    8-10 small shrimps, peeled

    1 medium onion, small diced

    1/4 cabbage, small diced

    1/3 zucchini, small diced

    1 pack saengmyon (fresh/udon noodle)*

1/4 cup jja jang (black bean sauce), fried in oil**

    2 tablespoons sugar

    pinch of salt

    6 tablespoons vegetable oil

    2 tablespoons cornstarch + 2 tablespoons water

    1/4 cup water

thin julienne of cucumber and some peas for garnish

Put a large frying pan on a high heat, add vegetable oil, and cook pork for 2-3 minutes.

Add onion and salt, cook for 5 minutes or until almost tranlucent.

Add shrimp and cook for 1 minute.

Add cabbage, saute for another 1 or 2 minutes.

Add jja jang, stir well to mix with vegetables.

Then add water and sugar, let boil.

Add starch mixture, stir quickly so that it will lump up.

Serve over cooked noodle or rice.

    * If you're not near an Asian market and cannot get fresh noodles/udon noodles, you can use regular spaghetti.

**There are two kinds of jja jang. One is plain (raw) bean paste and the other is a cooked/sauteed version. You can buy the plain one and cook it prior to use in some vegetable oil on medium heat for two to three minutes. Cooking the raw bean paste removes the slightly bitter and sour taste it has.
