How to make montages without using up too much space

I'm making a Gears of War montage, but it's taking up all my computer space. I just want to get little clips from what I do to put in my montage, but when i delete the big movie file after i got the clip, the clip doesn't work. any tips?

  1. I'd ask this question in one of the Computer categories here at YahooAnswers instead of in the Hobbies category... I'm sure you'll get more answers.

    (either way, you should use the phrase *computer* space in your subject line, since space could easily mean physical space too)

    You might want to define more exactly what you mean by a "montage" too for the best answers.

It really has to do with the software you are using.  What you would have to do is save the new file with a different name before deleting the big movie.  What you seem to be doing now is using a clip by linking it to the big movie, so when you delete the big movie there is nothing to link to so the clip will not work.  Saving either the new file or at least the clip you want to use with a different name should fix the problem.  That's the best answer I can give without knowing what software you are using.
