How to make my 8 y.o daughters braids stay in longer?

My daughter is mixed...my husband is african-american and cherokee indian and I am white. I have problems with her hair most of the time. She cries when I comb it like I am hurting her. I like to put it in little braids, but after a few hours they get all frizzy and look bad. I am wondering how to make them look good for longer. Thanks.

She has very curly hair...daddy's curls and my thickness. Her hair is rather long. Daddy and his whole family are against cutting her hair. I have used Just for Me Hair Lotion, and Braid Sheen Spray and they do not help.

  1. If you braid her hair while it's wet...  Step 1.  Add some hair gel just less than a dime size through her hair while wet from her bath.   Step 2. then braid.  Step 3.  Then add a little hair spray after it's braided...  When you do decide to take it out it'll be really wavy and pretty that way too.  My daughter loves it!

  2. Go to any drugstore and go to the hair product isle, they have many things to put in hair that keeps the frizz away. I've tried a small green round bottle that worked for me, but I have a different hair type then she. Friends of mine straighten their hair before doing anything to it, but that does ruin your hair. The choice is yours.

  3. she's old enough to take care of her own hair.  this will eliminate tears and frustration.

  4. I have the same problem with my curly hair, though probably not to the same extent as I have no African American heritage.  I found, after spending a fortune on products, that using coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil right after coming out of the shower, is the most helpful.  It was a tip from a friend from India.  They use coconut oil in their hair to get that shine and no frizz.  Make sure NOT to put too much in or it will look greasy.  Also, only comb hair and style it when hair is wet.  Never comb or style when it is dry.  It is an exercise in futility as it is more painful, causes frizz, and never stays the way you want it.  Frizz-Ease also works, but it is much more expensive.

  5. well there is always serums and creams to keep the frizz out, and then just spray her hair with a little hairspray (cover her eyes) and then just braid them as best as you can.

  6. Have you tried experimenting with different brands of hair gel? Some work better than others it all depends on your hair. Maybe Aussie Smoothy Gel would help. You could also use some hairspray after you get the braids in.

    Good luck
