  1. If you are using Windows XP professional and you are using Dot Net. You can install the Microsoft Web Server IIS on the CD.

if you are using JSP. You can download Apache Tomcat web server from internet. It is free.

    http://tomcat.apache.org/

If you are using PHP, you can download Apache web server.

    http://httpd.apache.org/

  2. Most web software lets you look at your site thru Internet Explorer & FireFox right on your own computer so you can test it & see what it looks like.

You don't even have to exit the program to do it.

Setting up a web server just to test a web site seems like a lot of work just to test something when you already have a way of doing it.  What software are you using to develop your site?

But if you really want to do it, here is a link to LOTS of free ones. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Fr...

  3. For testing purposes the easy path is to go with an integrated installer, one that have all you need and find on a hosting environment.

In the link below you will find Apache, MySQL, PHP, Perl and some other useful tools to manage all of it:

There is documentation on that site also. To access your new server just type http://127.0.0.1 on your browser.
