i have this land phone.

it is a battery powered cord-phone with speakers.

one night, it just began to make a "hum" sound going from soft, then to loud, and back and forth. everything was set right, the speaker wasn't on, the phone was put in right. i unplugged the phone line and the noise stopped.

then, the other night, it began to beep really loud. again, i unplugged the line and it stopped.

i never heard any of these sounds before and nobody was trying to call in.

now, the phone line is just left unplugged.

can someone please tell me whats going on?

  1. Normally the phone line has an alternate current of about 1.5 volts, sometimes due to a line fault this voltage fluctuates in the line causing the phone instruments to malfunction and it directly affects speakers in the phones (Speakerphone in Speakerphone enabled phones and Buzers in normal phones) due to which these speakers starts making weird noises. Its like you give a battery charge to a normal speaker and it makes a sound. Try replacing your phone with a normal set instead of a speaker phone model or alternatively you may call in your phone company and ask them to check your phone line (From the phone booth / pillar till your house).

    Cheers!!

  2. Defected phone?

I now use Cellphone as a main source of communication.

    Haven't had landline since 2004.

  3. just, leave the phone unplugged at night?

  4. Just sounds like a defected phone. Buy a new one.

  5. get new batteries!!

  6. Hello.

If you have another jack, try plugging it in there and see if you have the same problem.  If no problems happen, then it is probably the jack or inside line to that jack.  Also try contacting the phone company, or perhaps finding a cheap new phone.

  7. unplug the phone......if someone really needs to talk to you just have them call your cell phone(if you have one)

  8. its a spirit in your house! no, i'm just kidding. your phone is probably just going bad. try using a different one and see if that fixes your problem
