  1. Are you referring to pivot as in showmanship at halter or pivot under saddle?

  2. It's best to start in groundwork. It's too lengthy to expain here.  Once you have seen a video and practiced it there, it goes like this.

For a pivot off a hind foot, hold that foot in place with your leg against the same side behind the girth...just pressure from your leg.  Move the opposite leg ahead of the girth and cue with a bump or two as you rein in the direction of the pivot foot, a backward and side rein cue.  So, to pivot off the left hind, you rein left and back, hold the foot with your left leg, and cue with your right leg ahead of the girth.

To pivot off the forehand, say left front, hold the pivot foot with your left leg ahead of the girth (just pressure), and cue with your right leg behind the girth.  Rein toward the right and back as you pivot.  It helps to get the horse backed onto his haunches before you ask for pivots.

  3. the easiest way is to get your cues straight for what because if its straight and makes sense in your head it will in his. so none of this if i try this will you do it? first you have to do ground work make sure you know how to get each pivot. (front and hind both ways) sit back on your hips use your outside leg to push him over and neck rein him. or you could do circles to get his hips and shoulders to swing then whoa him and push him over without moving forward. hopefully it works!
