  1. Yes, you can. People do it all the time. Anyone who tells you you can't do it has hair that is in bad shape. I'm going to give you a few links to look at. You need to learn about your hair. Not only will it do it, it is pretty much the only hair that will. That IS 4a4b hair.
    Read this:
    http://www.blacknaturalbeauty.com/2009/07/how-to-define-4b-curls.html

Next go to naturallycurly.com. This is your best source of information on curly hair. go into the forums and read. Besides other topics, there are forums broken down by curl type. The women in this forum have been doing it for years, and anything you want to know you'll find here, or you can ask a question.

Other sites are long hair forum. This forum has a wealth of information on hair.

Next, go to youtube and start looking at the thousands of videos that tell you how do do your hair. For what you want this video will show you exactly how:
Defined curls w/Eco Styler clear gel with Olive Oil applied 1st Natural Hair 4a/4b Defined curls
Her name is jwhjpwrins. Also look for videos by msheathernicole, wj539. Just search youtube for define 4b curls.
How do you do it. Condition, Condition, Condition. Read the article in the link above. If your hair is conditioned it will forms coils and curls. You can use a gel define the curls, or you can use some other styling technique. The point is all of this information plus how to videos is on youtube.

  2. If I may be honest; if your hair doesn't naturally form coils then you cannot get that look unless you use chemicals...

4b/c hair, as I've learned, does not form these coils as it grows. It forms a z shape. When you wet your hair does it coil up into pencil size coils? If not then you'll not get this look without chemicals...

Remember tho, that your head of hair may be a mixture of different textures...

Try going to YouTube also. There you'll find a wealth of info!...
