Question:

How to make my washing machine spotless inside?

I have an upright washing machine with the door on top. I clean it regularly by removing the detergent compartment soaking it in hot water and chlorine.

The inside walls and ledges of my machine however have a layer of thick stuff that looks like dried fabric softener, and is in some places blackish but without smelling of mold. I leave my machine door open to air out (no kids or cats to worry about).

Other than scraping the stuff off is there anything I can use in the machine to clean the stuff off? I've tried putting it to wash with 90 degrees temp and chlorine but it doesn't go away.

The service man who came to fix something told me that I must not use much softener and only good quality stuff which I do. I use one cap full of the best softener on the market. I don't economize on our detergents.

Any suggestions?

  1. I know exactly what you are talking about.  I own an apartment complex where I have two laundry rooms.  Obviously I have this problem as well...

I suggest the cleaning agent Kaboom.  It is specifically for working with soap build up and it works wonders!  All you need to do is spray the Kaboom on the walls of the machine, let it sit for awhile, and rinse.  If the scum is built up enough you may want to scrub it lightly with a brush or cloth.  But you really don't need to scrub much, this cleaner is magic!  I would suggest however that when you are done run the washing machine empty just to make sure it's rinsed out completely.

You can purchase the product in most stores or on-line at www.kaboomkaboom.com.  Normally I can get a bottle for around $5.00.  It is pricey, but it gets the job done!

  2. You can buy washing machine cleaner from any supermarket, there are also tablets like clagon if you live in a hardwater area
