If i clip my bunny's nails too short what's the quickest way to stop it from bleeding? ( I've done it before by accident and i just held a towel against it and it stopped but it took a long time). Also with ferrets same question?

Thanks

  1. rub their paw in dirt or baking soda

  2. b4 you clip go to pet store or ask grooming shop for styptic powder if you do cut to short this powder helps stop bleeding u use pinch and a lil pressure to stop bleeding.if you cannot get any paper towel/towel is ok with lil bit of pressure

  3. Here's an article about styptic. I remember that my Dad used to use a styptic pencil if he cut himself shaving.

Under the heading of Powder, rabbits are mentioned specifically along with dogs, cats and birds. I'd ask at the pet shop to make sure about ferrets.

  4. I use flour when that happens.

  5. You can use styptic powder on dogs, cats, and birds to stop nail bleeding.  You should ask your vet if it is safe for rabbits and ferrets.  It works really well and you can find it at any pet store.

  6. keep a small container such as an old pill bottle full of   corn starch just for the purpose of clipping toenails.   Have it next to you when you go to clip the nails, if accidentally clipped too short stick toenail in the  cornstarch.

It's what we do!  learned it working in a grooming center years ago.
