Paving is too expensive so we thought we would pebble instead. It's an area of about 8feet by 32feet with gardens around it.Only problem is that we did a curly path ourselves once and it was hard to walk on and you sank into it and the furniture legs sunk into it.Without cocreting how do we make a hard compact stable surface using pebble. Also any other suggestions beside pebbles would be welcomed.thankyou

  1. pebbles still the better idea-give it time to settle down-as far as chairs go if they are in permenate area then place them on flat block for support

  2. use gravel...its great to look at to. with different colors and textures.put pots on them and gravel helps keep slugs at bay .also the gravel looks very attractive

  3. Dig down a few inches, about 2 to 4, line the bottom with plastic sheeting (heavy, black, find it in the gardening section of your DIY store) pour in your pebble, rent a heavy roller and roll over it to compact it, you may have to add more pebble after doing this. Also try a larger coarse stone on the bottom and a smaller one on the top. I know when doing drive ways you put a coarser number 4 stone at the bottom and work you way up to a number 2 pebble. Keep in mind that even after you roll over it, it can settle and you may have to repeat the process. Try doing it in stages, do the larger stone, roll it, wait two weeks, then do the smaller stone to finish it off.
