Question:

How to make potato soup without a blender?

Usually when I make potato soup i steam/boil potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and carrots to soften them then pop them into the blender. After which I season the soup.

However, my blender busted. The jug cracked and liquids just pour out the bottom. This of course leaked into the innards of the base as well as over the buttons. As such, I've got a busted blender?

Any ideas on how to do this sans blender?

  1. You could use a fork to mash everything down, or if you have a food processor you could use that.

  2. I've never made potato soup with a blender, perhaps I am behind the times though.  Or I just do not make a true cream of potato soup.

    what I do though is this;

    boil the potatoes after coarse dicing them, once they are just fork tender, set aside 1/2,  add sauteed diced carrots and diced onions to remaining 1/2 and cook for an additional 5 minutes, remove and strain.

      the first half of the potatoes I set aside gets mashed and added to the remaining ingredients along with milk and butter, then returned to heat.

    serve with parsley and crumbled bacon on top and corn muffins on the side.

  3. Buy a strong fine strainer /sieve and push the soup and vegetables though it to create a smooth velvity soup.

    IIt's important that potatoes and other veggies are tender before you do this.

  4. you could cut and sear the potato then bake it to get it a little a little harder then add the seasoning to the broth

  5. Mashed it with a spoon

  6. you really don't need to mash the potatoes at all to make a creamy soup. it's all in the rue.  just dice the potatoes and boil all ingredients in the water. add a rue(melted butter and flour) to the boiling water slowly and the soup will thicken up nicely.

  7. Why does the soup have to be smooth?  Just let it stay chunky w/ hunks of fresh potato in it.  Seems more hearty to me that way, anyway.
