Ok I want to make spanish rice with just rice, water, tomato sauce and an onion. All the recipes I've clicked on say , tomato paste, tomatoes chopped up, garlic, onions, veggies, and chicken broth. Well I don't have any of that, all I have is tomato sauce,the rice, and an onion. Is this ok, and how do I make it. I don't know how much water, how much rice, how much tomato sauce. HELP PLEASE!!

  1. I made the most fantastic rice the other day and I had just about what you had.  The only thing extra that I added was some leftover taco seasoning.  I cooked the rice in the rice maker added half a can of tomatoes and the taoc seasoning.  Yum, it was great and so easy.  Oh, and I did add salt to the rice when it was cooking.

  2. Spanish Rice Recipe

        * 12 inch frying pan, with tight fitting lid

        * 2 cups long grain white rice

        * 1/4 cup canola oil

        * 1 yellow onion cut into 1 inch chunks

        * 1 bell pepper any color, cut into 1 inch pieces

        * 3 cloves of garlic, minced or 3 heaping tsp garlic powder

        * 3/4 cup tomato puree

        * 2 tsp sea salt

        * 2 3/4 cups of chicken broth

        * 3/4 cup of frozen peas

    Add the oil to the pan and put heat on to medium high. Add the rice and saute until golden brown approximately 10 - 15 minutes. Then add the onion and bell pepper and saute another 5 - 10 minutes.

    The important thing is to make sure the rice is toasted to a nice golden brown.

    Using a garlic press, add the minced fresh garlic by squeezing the press and cutting off the garlic as it comes out, with a knife.

    Continue to saute for an additional 3 minutes. You will notice a wonderful garlic aroma.

    Add the tomato puree, chicken broth and salt. Stir and turn heat up to high. Bring to a full boil while stirring. Continue to boil for 2 minutes. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 20 minutes.

    When it's done, turn off the heat, remove the lid and stir in the peas. Replace the lid and wait 5 minutes before serving.

    You have just made some wonderfully flavorful Spanish rice.

    Cooking is like an art and it's okay to try different things and experiment. So if you think of something different you want to add, go for it.

    4 cups rice

    8 cups water

    2 tablespoons bijol (tumeric)

    2 bay leaves

    In a deep pot, render the tocino over medium heat. When oil lightly coats the bottom of the pan, saute the onions until translucent. Add the rice, tossing until heated. Add the water and bring to a boil. Add in the bay leaves and bijol.

    Cook until most of the water is absorbed at medium heat. Then cover and cook at very low heat until done, approximately 20 minutes.

  4. OK, put a tiny bit of oil in the pan, pour the rice in, and sautee it.  Then pour the tomato sauce in...I use about 3/4 of a small can and add your onions, salt and pepper and fill to the top with water.  Bring it to a boil. Then put it on low and cover to simmer until soft.  Do not stir it too much or it will get mushy.
