  1. im goin into 7th grade and my mom's the volleyball coach and she looks for a good attitude ( no drama!!!) get the fundementals down work on your serve HUSTLE!! get in shape try your best have fun and listen well and dont goof around or talk when you shouldnt

thats how my mom is going to base tryouts

GOOD LUCK HOPE YOU MAKE IT!!!! : )

  2. Attitude is everything, Through everything show you are having fun and are working really hard, don't walk, always jog! Make sure you encourage other players to do well too, And if they mess up say nice try. Coaches love a player who can pick others up when their down and give high fives with leadership. Also, a little tip, Wear something that makes you stand out, like a bright colored tshirt, spandex, socks, or even a headband. Coaches are more likely to remember you with a distinguished feature. Good luck and i hope you make it!

  3. Dotn sit down and hustle and try your best!!!!

  4. Hustle every where no walking coaches love that!

  5. Make sure you show the coach how much you want it by being coachable (listening attentively, attempting to do exactly what they say to the best of your ability, and not complaining), positive, and hardworking.

  6. You want to have a good attitude. Always say good job or that's good I'll bet you'll do better next time tot the other players trying out. You HAVE to Hustle. It's good to know how to serve overhanded . Be confident and during the summer practice allot. here's what i do...

I just practice practice practice. It helps if you use your wall and throw the ball at it then after that throw it on the ground hard over and over again for warm-ups. when your done practicing... over hand serving on to your roof. Every time you get it on take a small step back till you get to about the size of half the volleyball court and practice from there. It also helps if you stand with your right foot (if your going to hit the ball with your right hand) a little bit in-front of your left and your feet should about shoulders length apart and before you throw the ball up in the air your weight should be on your left foot and as you go to hit it switch to your right foot. and to get well at passing and setting instead of catching the ball pass it and set it back on the roof or you could pass and set to your self over and over again.

              Good luck :)

  7. Always listen and obey your coach. It will give you some good points if you do as he/she asks you to do. Have a good attitude about it, and give it your ALL! Don't give up. Make sure you call EVERY ball saying got it or mine. If some calls it first, don't go for it! A lot of times what will happen is 2 players will both say "mine" and then they look at each other seeing who will get it and bam it hits the floor. Absolutely no balls should ever hit the floor. Coaches are looking for a teammate who will dive for everything, and try to go after ever ball no matter how impossible it seems to get there. Don't underestiamte yourself, and instead go for everything!

A few essentials you will need to know are how to pass(bumping the ball to your target or setter), have high passes that your teammates can get to not like hitting it as hard as you can and it hits the ceiling, but controlled high passes that give your teammates time to get there. Setting is needed to know too, although passing is the most important fundamental in volleyball. When you go to spike(I understand you are in 7th grade) but you should try learning the right way to spike if you already don't know how to. It's important that you learn the right way when you are at this age, because trust me it is very hard to learn the proper way once you already did your own way. Here's an article on spiking and attacking.

I'm not sure if they will inforce learning your attack apporach in 7th grade, but like I said it's better to start out doing it right. If you can attack and your footing and steping is right, I wouldn't be surpirsed that you are a starter and a VERY important asset to your team.

--Basic assentials to impress the coach(some may be repeated.)

    • Learn your game. Know all the basic rules (how many points until game, whats a dig, kill, attack, etc. etc.)

    • Run EVERYWHERE. Don't be the lazy people and walk everywhere. Time is tight and they want to get everyhting they can into each practice. Coaches look for this.

    • Don't give up. Give yor heart, mind, body, everything into this game. Don't take the easy way out and get down with the challenging stuff.

    • Ask the coach questions. Don't be scared too. This will show him that you care if you don't get something and you can ask him for help.

    • Don't let ANY ball hit the floor. Go for everything.

    • Avoid diving as best as possible. And if you do, get right back up SPEEDY QUICK!! If your not up and ready, that's one more ball for your teammate to get to.

    • CALL THE BALL!!!! Say mine really loud.

    • COMMUNICATE. Yell short, mine, yours, outside, middle, out, whatever it is. Talk to your teammates. A good player is loud and talks.

    • Shag your ball.

    • Get nice, HIGH passes.

    • Get your serves over and in.

    >>This is for the off season. Improving your skills.<<

The best thing to do is go to a volleyball camp(camps improve you so MUCH!) Here's something my coach told me and it really stuck " A team is made during the season, but a player is made on the off." Go to as many camps as you can, and learn ALL you can.. they really help. I know becuase I was a much better player this year since I went to a camp. Or you could also play club ball for a team.

Good luck! If you do all of these things and give it your all (110%) you will do fine. Take it seriously and listen to the coach. Theres not much more I can tell you. You do this, and you got it! :]
