get old matchlight briquettes to fire up have no lighter fluid aint gonna use gasoline so no dumb answers please

  1. Place them on top of paper and light the paper.  I would guess that the briquettes have picked up some humidity.  I keep mine in my basement over the winter and have the same problem come time to BBQ again.  Keep placing paper in and they will dry out and light.


  2. Start a small fire using kindling and paper.  Once it is going well, add the briquettes.

    This is how it was done before briquettes were pretreated to light.

  3. Put wadded up newspaper under a conical pile of briquettes.  Light the paper on all sides and wallah you got fire!

  4. Wrap them in wax paper, before lighting.

  5. matchlight briquettes should light with just a match no lighter fluid needed.  if not do you have a small propane torch that would work
