So I'm showing my horse at the fair this year(Aug. 17-21) and im entering in the costume class. I've decided i want to do an arabian outfit but im not sure how to make it. I want like the bedouin outfit(for me) and the bridle and breastcollar with all the tassels that hang off it for the horse. I have a site here ive been looking at and its what i want to have, but id like to try to make it all instead of buying it. for the bridle ive thought if making like aslip cover with fancy beads and stuff and just slip it over one of my bridles i already have. any ideas on how to make this outfit??(and my mom is really good at sewing too.)

  1. Go to your local super-store (less expensive) and look through the yarns 'til you find one(s) that you like.  Some have gold or silver 'threads' running through them, for more 'flash'.

Look at the tassels at the store and see how they're made, maybe get one for a model to use at home.

Make yourself a form (wood, cardboard, plastic) that is the length you want the tassels on the breast collar to be.  Wrap the yarn around the form to make a nice, thickish tassel.

Using the store tassel as a guide, you can make as many as you need, as lush as you want and at a fraction of the price you would pay for ready made.

The 'sleeve' is a good idea for the breast collar and easier to attach tassels to.   Good luck!

  2. go to a sewing store that also carries drapery,a lot of tassels and trimmings can be found there then you can attatch them to your bridle using floral wire or string then you can use trim  to cover your reins.

  3. That link doesnt go to a bridle....

  4. Probably the easiest way to do the bridle if your doing it you self is to take the cloth that you want to be on the bridle and make it 2 or 3 times wider than it needs to be and then you could cheaply buy some velcro with a sticky back. You could then decorate the cloth however you wanted and velcro it on the bridle before you put it on the horse. This could make it look fancy for little price.
