i have this best friend and she is a girl, but recently she's very mad at me about something. how do i make up with her?

NO, don't do that. Because if you do, you'll never be able to joke around with her the way you used to. Lay low, remain distant until you find out exactly what you did to upset her.

If it's a big deal, like you insulted a family member of hers, then apologize. Don't make a soap opera of it but be a man, bro. Tell her you regret it.

But if it's something small, like you picked on her about a pair of shoes she was wearing one day or something, then remain distant for a while. Go two or three times being in her presence but not saying anything to her. Just sort of ignore her (I know, it sounds mean..) But then, right when it seems like she's had enough, you sit her down and tell her you regret what you said/did. Tell her you didn't realize how fragile she was and that you value her friendship.

This way, she won't spring it back on you and put you on a guilt trip whenever she feels you might upset her again. The next time -- if you're dumb enough to make the same mistake twice -- she'll know you mean no harm really.
