How to make very thick hair look thinner?

Hey, I'm a 13 year old girl and I have brown hair a little past shoulder lenght. Problem: It's soo thick! I have it thinned out 1 or 2 times a year but it doesn't help. I invested in a Sedu straightener, but even once it's all straightened it's still thick. Last year, I was so pissed and didn't have time to care for it, so I would wear a low ponytail with only my bangs straightened. I want to wear my hair loose, but I want it to look thinner.

By the way, my hair is kind of straight because after I wash them I comb them, put them in a low ponytail and let it dry overnight. Blow dryers don't work.

Having thick hair ISN'T a blessing. Medium hair is because you can make it look thinner or thicker easily. But too much hair isn't better then not enough.

Any tips are appreciated! :) Thanks.

  1. 1 or 2 times a year isn't enough for thick hair.  You have to have it layered and thinned at least four times a year.  I have extremely thick straight hair, but it is only truly straight once it's thinned.  Because of the coarse texture of my hair and the thickness, if I let it go I have large waves because of the way it sits on my shoulders.  Make sure you get layers, but emphasize that you want it to look long.

When I shower, I wash my hair and then apply a basic, cheap conditioner like herbal essence (not pantene--too much wax to weigh down hair).  I spend time washing my body, then I rinse out the conditioner and apply pantene restoratives.  I know I told you not to use Pantene, but I meant the regular conditioner.  For your final conditioner, use restoritives, it will make your hair extremely flat and silky.  When I get out of the shower, I towel dry my hair and I apply Matrix So Sleek leave in conditioner.  Just use a little tiny dab and work it through your hair, so as not to weigh it down.  Lastly, I use a dab of some sort of frizz control/shine booster--either a brief spray or a dab of a Sebastian frizz serum and work it through my hair.  After all this, it feels smooth and is more managable, less frizzy, and feels weightless.  Hope this helps.

  2. I would say just keep having it thinned out and in the mean time maybe try a chemical straightener at a hair salon ..you can ask for the one that will make your hair like asian hair and might help make it look thiner. I know it's a curse but I'm sure eventually it will start thinning out ..I use to have super nice thick hair and now mine is thin from straightening it and I miss my thick hair lol we are just never happy!!
