  1. Best wood to use is 1x6 or 1x8 pine for the fascia, and 1/2" plywood for the soffit.  Is this permanent, or just a mock-up?  If permanent, I would recommend that you prime the backside of the soffit panel and fascia board before installation.  This will help it resist rot.  Hope this helps.
