Question:

How to make your voice higher?

I'm a girl, with a moderate voice level, I guess, but I'm wondering for an easy way to get a high-pitched voice. I'm not using it for singing, just for speaking.

I was going to cosplay as a smallish character from an anime, Ouran High School Host Club, and I've got the height down pat, and I'm losing a lot of weight, so I'm wondering, again, if there's an easy way to heighten my voice.

  1. In acting we call this finding your "center pitch"

A center pitch is the optimum pitch for your voice to carry your sound the furthest without stressing or overworking.

It's very likely you're talking below your center pitch. Find a piano and practice humming notes. Hum into an "Ahhh" and sing, hmmmaaahhh. Practice your hmmah's on a few different notes and then intone a sentence right after. Don't sing the sentence on the note, just talk on the note's pitch.

You might sound weird to your self, but when you find your center pitch, it's much easier to understand you, easier to listen to you, it's less work for you, and you're not stressing your vocal cords.

  2. I'm fairly certain that the only easy way is helium.

A given human's vocal pitch is determined by their genes.  Pretty much anyone can choose to talk higher or lower than they normally would, but without practice it normally just makes you sound like you are reading a story to a child.  ("Rawr, I'm the big bad wolf!")  With *extensive training*, people like voice actors and stage actors can gain control over their voice to the point where they can speak at a different pitch than their given voice *and make it sound good*.

So, my advice for the short term is to just try it at home and listen to yourself.  If it sounds silly or piercing, then you are honestly going to sound cuter if you just use your natural, unaffected voice.
