How to measure a casement/slider window to fit a air conditioner in it?

I have new windows and I do not know how to measure the slider window to see if this will fit in 14.5x23.84x20.47 (this is the air conditioner) my window across is 17 very tall 78.25 can some explain to me how to measure my window so I know if I can put it in my window?

  1. if your window is a casement (cranks out) a window air conditioner will not work unless you completely remove the window sash. measure the width of the opening. if the window opening is larger than the width of the air conditioner, it will fit but you will need to block the area above the air conditioner with plywood or other sturdy material.

    same for the slider window. open the window all the way and measure the opening.

    you may want to reinforce the plywood with a frame made from 1x2's.


  2. use or buy a tape measure

  3. Open up your window and measure the -opening-. The width and the height. The opening  needs to be wider than 14.5 and apparently your window is tall enough (at 78.5) to accommodate the unit.
