  1. the above answer is applicable when you try to measure the length of the perimeter of the land. But when you are trying to measure the area, the way is to divide the land into triangles or squares or rectangles (whichever suits most) and then measure the area of each one and then sum up.

  3. I guess the first and most accurate way I could think of is (depending on size of course) lay out a string along the border and then measure the string laid out straight to get easier calculations.

    If the land is too large you can get one of those wheel/handle measurers that you walk around with and roll it on the ground while it adds up the measurement.
