Some people claim that "A very large step" can be around a meter, or yard.

There are many, many items manufactured that have standards that are equal to one meter. On boats, on roads, on cars.  These are too numerous, and I do not think this is the answer to your question.

Long ago, the "Foot" was a measure of the actual foot of the king at the time of the measurement.

1 meter is equil to 3.3 feet.
