So I'm 6' 0" and I weigh 160 pounds. What would be the best length skies of me? I really want to buy some because prices are cheap! Also what about pole length?

  1. It really depends on what type of ski you're buying and your ability level.  Definitely ask somebody at a ski shop.  Also, most manufacturers provide some kind of sizing chart either on their site or on the store's site.  As for the poles, hold the handle and touch the tip to the ground.  You want a pair that has your elbow at about a 90 degree angle.  I'm guessing that'll be near 52" for somebody 6' tall.

  2. 165's

  3. Just go to you local ski shop and ask them.  They will give you their expert opinion of what is the correct ski for you and pick you out a good pair.  As you become more advanced it is more a matter of personal opinion.  For instance, I'm 5'11" and 135 lbs and prefer to ski on something between 150cm and 160cm, while my dad is about the same hight like his skis around 195cm.  Also wider skis do not need to be as long because they have the same amount of surface area as a longer skinnier ski would.  It is really up to you.

  4. It really depends on ski level and what type of skiing your doing. But, most common height is between your nose and eyebrows.

  5. Since you are asking here, I would guess you are a beginning intermediate skier. It depends on what type of skiing you are doing how long they should be. For groomed runs and bumps in mid speeds, a ski that is about eye level, and of medium flex since you are a medium build.  If you are going faster on an open groomed race course, then the length and flex will increase.  If you are off piste in deep snow and crud, then you will need a softer and wider ski. As to the length of the poles, grab one in your hand, with the grip on the floor and the basket above your thumb. Your elbow should make a square angle with your arms.  Any shorter and you have no push with the pole, longer and you will be in trouble in moguls.  The physics involved can best be explained by a qualified professional instructor.

You also need to incorporate the boot and binding package with your body.
