Question:

How to meet people in Austin?

I recently moved back to Austin, TX after having been out of state for a few years. I'm here to finish up school, and have been having a hard time meeting people. Everyone at school already has their groups of friends. Are there any groups/clubs/ even volunteer groups around Austin that would be helpful with meeting people??

  1. Two groups I've volunteered with in Austin, Texas are Knowbility.org (http://www.knowbility.org) and the Texas Freedom Network (http://www.tfn.org).

SXSW is coming up VERY soon, and Knowbility might need help with staffing a booth or other activities; drop them a line via their web site, set up a meeting to go in and talk face-to-face with anyone, and see if they need help during SXSW.

Otherwise, most groups that need volunteers in Austin post to all the usual volunteer recruitment sites:

    VolunteerMatch, http://www.volunteermatch.org

    Idealist, http://www.idealist.org

    Change.org, http://www.change.org

    CraigsList, http://www.craigslist.com

    Network for Good, http://www.networkforgood.org

    http://www.1-800-volunteer.org/

    ServeNet, http://servenet.org/

Volunteering is how I met so many people in Austin when I lived there. It took a while, but it did happen.
