Question:

How to mend a broken relationship with my mother-in law

my mother in law is a very fussy person. She's always complaining and never be satisfied with anybody. This morning I went home for a tea break and she started complaining with the food and etc. I am usually a very patient person but today she really cross my limits. I tried not to answer her back but the more I kept quiet the more she talks and nags. So, I ask her not to complain too much and please respect how others may feel if she continues talking. She was angry but I didn't mean to hurt her feeling. I did apologize but I think she was hurt. What can I do to mend this relationship? I've been patient for a very long time and this time it is just too much for me to handle.

  1. You already apologized.  I don't think you need to do anything else.  I am sure she feels badly for being so fussy.  Just give it time, and things will return to normal.  When this happens again, I would make an excuse to leave the house, just to get a break.  That way, neither of you get irritated, and say things to push the other over the edge.

  2. Well, im sorry that you have to face this situation.I think this is where you went slightly wrong by talking back. See, mothers in law are also like our mothers, and we should technically be treating them the same way. I think in this regard, its always the girl who should hold her nerve and maintain the relationship. Even though mothers in law dont admit but they highly regard this trait. So I think you should treat this matter, just like with your mother. what would you have done it if were your mother in her place? It seems hard, but do give it a shot. A few words of love, and an appology, and a nice talk could clear matters. Even though the scars will remain , sadly. But with time they could heal. So its all up to you girl!!! Hold yourself together! :)

If all that doesnt work, then you have to ask your husband to intervene, as a last resort ofcourse. Best of luck! x
