Question:

How to motivate my nephew?

He graduated high school in '07 - he doesn't want to go to school - he has no interest in finding a job - he does 0 chores around the house.. He is unhealthly obese - eats every waking hour. (I think he does this to avoid finding a girlfriend.) He's perfectly content to still get an allowance from his mother (at 19!) - the only things he cares about are video games and pro-wrestling. Everything else is "boring". His mother (my sis) is perfectly willing to keep enabling this. There is no man in the house, so don't go there with answers.

The only solution that I come up with is a Dr. Phil intervention. Any other realistic suggestions?

  1. An old ladies' opinion:  from where I sit, your nephew is just like a whole lot of other kids.  No ambition.  The problem lies in your sister.  Until she quits enabling him, he will never change.  The only thing you can do is to keep gently telling your Sis to quit enabling.  Think about it, that is a tough call for her to change, but that is what needs to happen.  I see a lot of young people hooked on those video games.  They stay up all night playing them and sleep all day.  Such a waste.  He needs to get a job and start being responsible, but like I said, all you can do is be there for your Sister.  Also, it is nice of you to be concerned.  Good luck.
