Question:

How to move my parakeet to another cage?

I am beginning hand training on my two parakeets, and I know they should be in different cages.

But I think they'd be scared out of their mind, they really seem to like each other.

And since they are not tame, how would I move one to the other cage without scaring either one?

Please help me, I love them both dearly.

  1. okay since you are training them, i think you can try to let them out first. Remove the tray from the cage and take the bars and slowly put it on the budgie. When it clings onto the bars, put the tray back.

That was wat i did last time and it worked quite well with them. :)

  2. You could have them in two cages, and have the cages next to each other. OR if they don't interact with you, put them in another room. But for mirrors, they will think that it's another bird and BOND with it instead of you so I would think about putting mirrors in. But they will be fine when they're separated, they will pay more attention to you once they aren't with each other when your training them =)

  3. Both UN tamed birds should have their flights trimmed before any out of cage training is started...for their safety.

Every bird owner needs to know how to capture and correctly towel a bird. With small birds use a clean hand towel and quickly drop it over the bird, then quickly scoop him up with both hands gently, but firmly enough he can't fly forward and out of the towel and then place him on the bottom grate of the cage you want to put him in and shut the cage door.

Now, because you have two birds in one cage you will have to be very careful the second bird doest escape while you towel the bird you want out.

I suggest you carry the cage with both birds to a small room and shut the door, so if one bird does get out he can't go far.

If you have any Bird Stores near you, go to one and ask if they would show you how to towel a Parakeet, most will be glad too, but be for warned, that small a bird they may show you how to capture and hold it without a towel and with bare hands around the neck.

That's even better for small birds, just harder to explain here and some times harder for the other person to try the first time-:)

If you think you can, then try reaching in and wrapping your exdex finger and thumb around the birds head-low, with your palm around the wings.

  5. I always used an oven mit. =)

Edit:  Place a small mirrow in each cage with each bird.  They think it is another bird.  Seriously.  It is so funny to watch.
