  1. use the internet

  2. I assume by Hawaii you mean the main island, Oahu?

Cost of living in Hawaii is very high, so please make sure you have the funds available to last there until you are able to find employment. Also, jobs tend to not pay as well as their mainland counterparts. Health insurance is pretty much guaranteed if you are working part time, which is a very nice plus. Fuel (electric bills, gasoline for your car) and and food costs WILL be much higher.

-To find an apartment, check craigslist, or the two local newspapers in Hawaii: Honolulu Advertiser & Star Bulletin. Please be careful of scams - they are rampant all over the place now.

-Calling Hawaii is long distance within the US, it is NOT an international call. Area code is 808

-You can ship your car to Hawaii, but it will be expensive. Do a google search on "shipping car to Hawaii" or some such. Double check with the BBB that they are a legitimate business with a good record before you agree to anything, though.

  3. don't let people fool you!!  living there is much cheaper than plenty places on mainland, namely new york and l.a.. plus workers are treated better, mcd's has medical, dental and vision +401k, + paid holidays/vacation, + relaxed atmosphire, + + + + + +......

life will be a lot different and your priorites will shift, but what the heck, your'e living in hawaii!!

  4. First of all you need to have money. Lots of it.

Find what city you want to move to.

Get on the internet and see what is available in that area for apts. and day care.

Make sure you can get a job.

    Don't forget, you'll need a car.

  5. You have your work cut out for you! But I don't understand what answer you are seeking! You move there by packing your stuff and going.

  6. You should bring a lot of savings with you--jobs are becoming scarcer (depends on your field), daycare is difficult to find and expensive, and apartments are also expensive.  Your car will cost over $1,000 to ship over, and the cost may be higher with the fuel surcharge.  The area code here is 808--we are a US State.

You can try Craigslist, but you need to know the areas so you don't end up in a "bad area."  Depends where you work or want to work.  Lots of new people live in Makiki since it is centrally located and there are lots of apartments for rent.  For a 1-bedroom with utilities, I would plan to pay at least $1,400 a month (rent electric, cable and internet).  You will need one month's rent for deposit plus deposits for the utilities.

I don't mean to be depressing, but you need a lot more research before you come over, and sufficient money to make it here.

Doug is very mistaken.  I've lived in both NYC and Honolulu (15 years and 22 years respectively), returned home (Honolulu) nearly 4 years ago and am making half of what I was making in NYC.  McDonald's pays health insurance b/c companies are required to offer to all FT workers with a few exceptions.  Health care premiums and fees are one of the few cheaper expenses in Hawaii as a result.
