HELP! I hope someone out there can help me. I'm trying to obtain a birth certificate for our house help who has served our family for 3 generations (she's about 65+). My grandparents got her when she was really young (talk about slave labor during those time!). Unfortunately, both my grandparents passed away so I have no way to find out where they got my nanay from. Since she was taken-in by our family at a very young age, the only information that she has are: her full name and birthdate. I asked my tito's and tita's and even my mom but they don't know anything either. Based from the FAQ's section of ecensus.com.ph, it states that they don't have any record of civil registrations made prior to 1945. Since my nanay was born before that, what can we do to obtain a birth certificate for her? My nanay sacrificed her whole life taking care of me, I consider her more as a mother than a regular house help. She has to have a birth certificate & the world needs to know that she exists!

  1. Don't know if this will be a help or not, but the NSA "National Statistics Office, Civil Registry Division, Vibal Building, EDSA, West Triangle, Quezon City. Tel: 63-2-926-7370 Helpline: 63-2-737-1111, Website: www.census.gov.ph e-mail (what you already mentioned) e-census.gov.ph.

Questions arise, such as where ARE YOU, do you speak Tagalog, etc.

You mentioned slave labor; it is still that way, where you can adopt someone or hire them to work for you.  My wife's cousin "adopted" a girl to be in her household.

If you are not in the Philippines or do not speak Tagalog, you will probably not get very far. I am certain you are aware that there records do not go back very far. My wife did not have a birth certificate, lost during World War II.  But, her parents and other old people swore out affidavits and a birth certificate was created.

But, not knowing where she was from rather stifles things...

  2. Tell them the j**s took it.
