You have to contact the courthouse in the state and county of where the child was born.  I imagine you could get a telephone # by going to 411.  I would call them and ask them if there is any way they could mail you a certified copy of the childs birth certificate, then file it with your courthouse so they will always have it on file in case you need another one some day.
