How to open megaupload and rar. files?

Question

so this is what happens:

*the first time i downloaded a video file from megaupload,when the download was complete, it asked me what i wanted to open the file with, so i clicked itunes. but the file did not work, and when i right clicked on it the option to extract the file was no longer there, and the thumbnail showed it as an itunes file, i ended up having to delete the file because i had no idea how to fix it

now what happens is that everytime i download a video file from megaupload it just automatically chooses to use itunes to open itself i guess, so it no longer asks me which program i would like to use to open the file

so now i cant extract the file because it shows up as an itunes file all the time

i need to find out how to:

1) change it back to a file that i will be able to extract

2) possibly make the file work as it is

and 3) how to open rar. files

PLEASE, if possible, give step by step instructions as to what i should do. and a possible explanation of why the files automatically choose itunes by themselves

When you download it, choose to SAVE it, not open it with an application.

Then, download and install WinRAR, from http://www.rarlab.com

When WinRAR is installed, it will fix the file associations, and recognize the file as a RAR. You can now open it in WinRAR and extract the files.

The first time you chose to open it with iTunes, you probably didn't notice, but you left the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" checked.

So, I'm guessing that the file you downloaded was .rar and you assigned iTunes to open it.

This is what you need to do.

1. Open any folder.

2. Click on Tools->Folder Options.

3. Select the File Types tab.

4. Find RAR, click on it and then click on the Change button.

5. A dialog will appear. Select the program you ussually open .rar files (like WinRAR, if you don't have it try googling it, its free).
