I'm going into 10th grade and homeschooling this year, and I don't know where to begin organization wise. I thought maybe I could buy an individual binder for each study, such as Histories-French-Mathematics-Etc. But. . . I'm not sure how to get this all organized. =/ Has anyone or does anyone homeschool and/or been homeschooled during high school, and had a plan/system that worked for them? I'd really appreciate some ideas =) Thanks!

  1. There are lots of formats to use to get organized.  The first place I would suggest is to consider what requirements you still need to fulfill if you plan to attend college.  www.hslda.org has a brochure online that you can download and use as a guide for what academics you need to achieve.  Once you narrow down what you need to take as far as courses, then you will want to start considering curriculum.  There are text books, online courses, and all kinds of formats for you to use for taking a course that best fits your learning style.  The Well-Trained Mind book has some excellent practical ways to organize notebooks and suggested curriculum.  If you use online courses they usually keep track of your grades and time as well as reminders as to what is due at what time.  Some Virtual Academies require a certain amount of time so that you will accomplish the course in the required time.

Another strong suggestion is to check into co-ops and enrichment classes that are offered in your local area which will help you keep organized and accomplish your studies.  www.hslda.org will have a list of support groups in your area to contact so you can research what is available to you.  Another thought is to check into a local college to see if you can take some college courses and get dual credit.  I have known students who were able to graduate from high school with an associate's degree at the same time!   Hope this gets you going.

  2. I did three years of online high school.  A good one that is available in every state is called Keystone High School.  They send you all of your books and lesson plans and you do all of your tests online!  You also receive your high school diploma through them.  If you live in Wisconsin there is IQ Academies at Wisconsin, which is free.  A lot of states now have online high schools that are free, you just need to find out what your state offers.

As far as organization goes I think all you really need is a notebook and folder for each one of your classes.  That's what worked for me!  Hope I helped
