  1. Foot speed and and lateral movement can be slowed by cutting off the ring and working the body early and often.  Bang on a guys ribs for a couple of rounds and it slows him down to a reasonable speed.

Hand speed is a lot tougher to answer, but today's students are blessed with a true master of the necessary technique's needed to counter superior hand speed.  Nobody slips, blocks or gives better angles than Winky Wright, and Wink has average hand speed.  Both Taylor and Hopkins have above average hand speed, and Wink stood right in front of them and out boxed them even though they were faster than him.  Wink is a master, he catches punches on his arms, elbows, and blocks as well as anyone in the history of the sport.  Nobody could slip and counter better than Winky Wright, and that is how you  respond to superior hand speed.

Get about six or eight of Wink's biggest fights and sit down and watch a master at work.

  2. Jab. Thats how you slow anyone down is with the ole jab. Then the chances you get inside, throw punches to the body. Also, faints work miracles when going against faster fighters. Throw a jab then faint. Most get scared and go into "hiding".

  3. Your going to need a lots of foot speed. Hit him a lot in the stomach and that may get him tired no matter how good in shape he is.

Hand speed is something else you need, a good thing to do is punch the heavy bag and speed bag. Both will help you gain speed and endurance. Also jump rope a lot your gonna need for condition and run a lot too. Just remember that don't get upset if you lose. There is always going to be someone better than you and they are probably working right now thinking the same thing on how to outbox you. Just never give up and keep boxing. Good luck.

  4. Thumbs up to Blogbaba. I agree with him. Jabs are pretty important against a fast fighter. Winky Wright and Vernon Forrest both fought a faster Shane Mosley twice and won each time, basically with good jabbing. As mentioned already, check out some of Wright's fights. Wladimir Klitschko's second fight with Chris Byrd is another good example to check out.

  5. use a straight hard jab, watch what Vernon Forrest done to Shane Mosley 1 st fight, it stopped Shane setting up his attacks and kept Shane of balance

  6. it always depend on the fighter with the speed but the average fighter would have to tell you to go to the body to slow you down and using a great stiff jab will also help and another old school trick is to tie em up alot and drain their energy basically try and make them work and use their energy

  7. Make the fight a brawl.  Get him uncomfortable by smothering him and keep working.
