Question:

How to overcome shyness

In school I am really really shy like I barely talk only when I'm talked too. And this is greatly affecting my friendships. I only have one friend who knows me inside and out and knows I'm truly not shy outside of school, but the problem is that shes not in my school, shes from a different school. So I'd like at least one friend in my school that I could sit next to in lunch and stuff.

But the problem is that im extremely shy and everytime I do talk, my face gets beat red which makes me not want to talk at all.

Are there any creams for my face to stop it from getting red? Any shots or something or any short term cures for it like I heard its from getting stressed so would it work if I breathed in and out?

And also is there anyway to be less shy for the start of the new school year? I cannot keep a conversation going! I just don't know what to say!! And also when I first meet someone I'm shy too.

Please help me this is tremendously lowering my self esteem and confidence

Thanks soooo much to anyone who answered!

  1. Be confident! I know that it is really hard for some people to hold a convosation but.....this is gonna sound pretty lame but maybe practice what you are going to say to them the night before or something. If your face is going red, don't worry about it. Keep talking and if you need to stop talking say something like it was nice talking to you but i need to  get to a class. YOU CAN DO IT! Best of luck x!

  2. why are you shy? i'm sure you're an awesome person and you probably should care what people say.

i was the same way. except i got picked on because of it. do not fall that low.

    talk, be funny, be yourself.

if people don't like who you really are then s***w them.

  3. Shyness is awful isn't it? You want to be friends with people - more friends equals being less shy, in the sense that there would be more people you are comfortable around. But you are too shy to make them.

I know how you feel. I have always been shy. For me the hardest thing is not caring about what people think. But here's my advice, take it or leave it :)

Don't worry about holding up a conversation. You need to do it  but the first step is putting yourself in a position to need to talk. You might want to find an activity you like - a sport, bowling, or any hobby really that you like and join a club. Because then you can talk about things you know more about - might have confidence in. Be friends with these people. Then move from there.

I know this would probably be a huge step, it is. But if it is something that you want you have to fight for it.

Also as weird as it sounds when I was in high school I joined drama (though I didn't really want to) because I thought it would force me to break out a bit (having to act in front of people) and it helped a little.

  4. hmm haha yeah that was me, red face and everything :P

maybe you could join a club, anything you're intrested in like a sport, academic club, or BAND :D hahaha

yeah i was in band and extremely shy but band really brought it out of me, cause you have so much fun going everywhere like so many field trips and ect. lets people see who you are.

and in college where i didn't have that i just decided to smile a lot more and like put yourself in situations where you're around people (create opportunities for yourself) like the first day of class is cool and usually where i make my main friends. cause they're standing out the door. and as harrrdddd as this is.. just smile and say hi! and yeah

i guess people are attracted to FRIENDLY people and avoid sad people and believe it or not they might feel uncomfortable around shy people cause you know everyone gets nervous so don't worry. they're not gonna be like **** don't talk to me! LOL seriously just try little steps you don't need to carry out a whole conversation when you're barely learning

also if you're bad at conversations.. talk to yourself.. like if something happens THINK about it in words as if you're telling someone and like not all monotone.. but yeah it's all about entertaining people :P i know it sounds so wierd but it's pretty true.
