  1. You've turned into your dad the day you put aside a thin piece of wood

    specifically to stir paint with.

  2. 1st ceiling

    2nd trim

    3rd walls.

  3. hey...i recently painted a room, and as I inspected the ceiling, I determined it really didn't need a coat of paint, esp. since I was painting walls a darker color and leaving the ceiling white. So, I matched the window trim to the current ceiling color and after painting the walls, then tackled the trim around doors and widows. It all looks Ok. Also, invest in an angled paint brush. This proved to be invaluable in the "cutting in" part. I didn't even have to tape up the edges using angled brushes of various sizes. keep the windows open for ventilation, and buy a small drop cloth or use an old sheet to cover the floor while painting. Clean the walls with damp sponge before painting. have fun and good luck =)

  4. ceiling first ~ then the walls ~ then the trim.  If you are worried about the old color bleeding through use Kiltz as your primer or have your primer tinted with the color that you plan to use.  Use eggshell paint and you will be able to clean it in a couple of years without any problem.  Gloss paint will show any problem areas in the sheet rock and flat paint will not clean well.  Using a gloss paint on the trim will break things up and be pleasing to the eye.  Chair rail?  Paint under it with one color and another above it.  Darkest on the bottom.  If you don't have any crown mold on the top as trim then a good border from the paint store will keep you from having to get too close to the ceiling.  Paint as close as you are comfortable and then when you are finished you can put up the border.  This will keep you from getting colored paint on your white ceiling and having to touch it up.  Base board?  Use a thin piece of cardboard to keep you from getting paint on the floor.  Hold it with one hand and paint with the other.  As you move down the wall just keep moving the cardboard.  This will keep you from getting paint in the carpet.  WARNING!!!  If you do too good of a job, your mom is going to want you to paint the rest of the house.  One room is fun, ten is a job!!  CHILD LABOR IS AGAINST THE LAW!!  Good luck and be careful not to work yourself into a job you don't want LOL.

  5. I would go with the first answer. Before that, check to see if the walls need to be repaired. If they do (like holes left by tacks or nails to hang stuff), you would need to fill the holes with plaster (wait 24 hours) and sand it. Then you would apply primer. You are free to paint after that. When you get your paint, make sure to check to see if you need primer. If your walls are dark, or if you want to go from a glossy paint to a matte or a flat paint, you will. Some darker colors that you might want to paint require a primer also. It's not always just paint and a brush. Find out what you need to do with the walls, first. Hope this helps.
