How to paint a white cast iron object black?

My husband is doing some work on a small wood ship model. He has a quite small cast white metal round piece that he is trying to paint black. He has tried markers of several types, scraping the surface first, and model paints. The white always shows through, even if he immerses the object then takes it out, the paint just rolls off. I am sure that there is a very easy answer.... thanks in advance!

  1. ~ i would get a can of spary paint, flat black. They now make a paint for plastic outside furniture that is slick, that the paint will stick to. It's by Kryon but i am not sure of the paint name. It says safe for platic furnitrue. bet that would work.

Aslos there is a marker pen called a slick writer. It is designed to be used on sick surfaces that a reg. marker won't adhere to.

  2. If he can spray paint it, use Rustoleum's Wrought Iron Textured Paint.  If he can't spray it, spray some into a small plastic container and use a paint brush to paint the spray paint on.  It will stick and give you enough coverage to obscure the white.
