I need to paint over some damp plaster which is going to take months to dry out.

Is there a special paint that I can use for this?

  1. get an industrial blower from a hire shop and it will be totally dry in 48 hours. you are wasting your time trting to paint wet plaster. you will use twice as much paint and it will look terrible.

  2. It won't take months to dry. But if you're in a big hurry you could just use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process.  Once and plaster is dry, you can use any paint.

  3. You won't make a good job if you try and I presume you mean emulsion, the dampness will only make you job look patchy, and will take much longer to dry out. Leave as many windows open you can and the air flow will dry out the plaster better, but i'm afraid it will not be an overnight job The use of fans will be really expensive way of drying the plaster and might cause the plaster to crack. Hopefully a plasterer will come with more definite ideas what you should do.

All the best of luck to you . Alex

  4. It will not take months to dry out.

At this time of year the plaster will dry out in days, so leave it a week.

First you need to paint a "mist coat"- dilute some emulsion with water.

    paint this,giving 2 or 3 coats-leaving a day between each.

    then carry on as normal.

(if the plaster is still wet after a few days -then you may have a problem with damp)

  5. Turn a fan onto the plaster.  It will dry it faster.  It should be good and dry in a week without the fan unless you left out some important details!
