  1. They will put them in the middle and they are about 20 feet apart and you can either use one hand to do this if you think that you can and if not keep both hands on the steering wheel and use your mirrors...................

  2. The two cones represent another vehicle.

Pull up beside them with your right signal on (tap your brakes a few times and check your rear view mirror to make sure it's clear as your stop)..........line up your rear bumper with the back cone.......find a 45 degree reference across the street......With your vehicle in reverse, and riding your brake, allow your vehicle to back up about 1/2 second and then steer all the way to the right with both hands (if you forget which way to steer, just look at the signal....it will tell you - right signal, turn right - even in reverse)......until you are pointing at that 45 degree angle.

[Back up steering all the way to the right (with both hands), until you can see the rear cone in your front passenger door window.] Then straighten out your steering, and back in straight at the 45 degree angle until your front passenger side bumper is in line with the rear cone. Continue moving slowly back and steer all the way left, looking to the rear and checking your passenger side mirror to make sure you are close enough and straight.  Back up a bit more and straighten your wheels. Set your parking brake, shift to Park......you are done......

If you have to do this maneoeuver more than once, exit your parking in the opposite way to how you parked, and begin again.....

A note on backing......parallel parking is a backing test, so look mostly to the rear while backing, and when backing straight you may place your right arm over the back of the passenger seat....with your left hand at the 12 oclock position on the wheel. In this way you know where your wheels are while you back up.....when you are backing and turning, you are expected to use both hands, and look mostly in the direction which the rear of your vehicle is moving.

    I hope this helps.

  3. i still remember vividly in my CT driver's manual

when you parallel park, one hands on the wheel, while the other hand's on the behind the passenger's seat.

when parallel park look at the side mirror and look over your shoulder hence why you place your other hand behind the passenger's seat.
