How to passord protect external hard drive?

Hi, I have 300 GP USB external HDD. So many files I stored my external hard drive. I used my USB both my office and home.

How to protect using password. I heared some software is helping to create password. Please recomment any free software if it is available. Can i download that sofware to my office computer and create password to my USB? or the software download directly to USB drive?. please help me in detail? thanx in advance?

I'd use truecrypt from http://truecrypt.org

Move everything off.

Encrypt the entire drive.

Move stuff back.
