How to perform slap and pop on bass?

Alright so I've been playing bass for abit over half a year, and I've been wondring how exactly the slap and pop technique is performed?

Like, what part of the thumb is used to hit the string? What angle should my thumb be at? And is it common for you to have to mute the other strings so you can just hit one string, or do most people simply hit the string they need without hitting others? And would just the D and G strings be 'popped' while the E and A strings a 'slapped' ?

I know it's alot to answer but I can't seem to find any info on it anywhere.

  1. Do a search for slap bass lesson on YouTube.  There are a lot of videos to help you.  It also has a little to do with the pickup and the amp.
