How to pick the horses to win the placepot - any systems??

Well even though im 14 ive beeen doing placepots for years and its actually harder than it seems to win it. ill just give a run down of how the placing system works:

up to 4 horses in a race-1st only

5 to 7 horses in a race-1st and 2nd only

8+ horses in a race-1st, 2nd and 3rd only

and if there are 16+ horses in a handicapped race, 4th place counts too.

my tip would be to do the placepot at a card with roughly 8 or 9 runners each race giving the best chance of it being placed.
