  1. Use even with attribution can be considered violation of copyright. The best way to use them, is to stick with low quality copies of the images, linking to the originals on the copy right holders web sites, and asking the owners what they'd like. People may be more than willing to let you use their work provided you ask them first.

  2. why not include your source in the alt=title tag in your pics or instead write in the lower portion of the pics where you got them

  3. If you grab images, to use on your site, you are likely infringing the photographer's copyright.    Referencing where you got them does not change this.    What you want to do is have license or usage rights given to you by the copyright holder (usually photographer).   If you search under things like "royalty free", you will find sites that offer images where the copyright holder has given permission for others to use them.  Get your images here in stead of grabbing them at random.

If you want to direct people to specific images on the web, you certainly can provide  links without copyingtheir images.  I believe (but you should verify this) that using thumbnail images as links is considered fair use.

The intent of your site may also matter.  Certain things like commentary, some educational uses, etc allow you to use images under fair use and not be considered a copyright iinfringement

People use images off the internet happens often, but that doesn't men it is legal.
