Question:

How to plan my trip to Galway?

A friend and I are planning to go to Galway City for vacation. We will be flying to Dublin and then either taking the bus or train to Galway City. We would like to go to the Aran Islands (specifically staying in Oiir) for two days. Should we go to the islands first or leave it to the end?

If we go first, then we would have to time everything to where we could take the bus from Galway City to a port to catch the ferry to the island. If we leave it for last, we would do the same thing but come back to Galway and probably stay there for a night and then go to Dublin the next morning.

What would be the easiest route?

  1. It'd really depend on the times of everything and is more a personal choice. I would imagine though that it may be better to leave the islands til the last bit as you may have tired yourself out by then and a chilled out time might be the best way to end your trip. There wouldn't be much to do on the islands except walk and find a cosy pub somewhere whereas in the city you might be living the high life and shopping etc : ) Enjoy it whatever you decide anyway and safe travels.

  2. As the first person said, its really up to you but i would probably advise going into the city first.. how many days do you have, would you have enough time to go around the county of Galway?? Aran doesn't really have that much to do so i suppose it depends on what you want to get out of your holiday.. the city is lovely and i'd advise you to spend a couple of nights there.
