I have some pea pods that are from my 4 year old Mimosa tree. What do I need to do to make sure I get a new tree from these seeds?

  1. The seeds have a tough, brown, shiny outer coating. Scratch it to make a small break in the shell, then soak in warm water for two to three days. If you want to accelerate the process, use hot water and leave it for 24 hours.

Sow the seeds 3.2mm deep in well-drained, sterile seed compost with a temperature of about 20C- 25C,(70-75 and keep moist. It should germinate within four weeks.

  2. I LOVE Mimosa trees!  So do the hummingbirds.... Check out these websites:

There seems to be some controversy over the Mimosa tree.  Some believe it to be too invasive and consider it a weed.  I'm not of like mind.... I grew up with a Mimosa tree sitting on my granny's front lawn and it was an awesome site to see outside of her picture window.  I think I'll always love them....

  3. It is possible.  But, why would you want to?  Most saplings you buy in nurseries are at least 5 years old.  You probably want to enjoy the tree before you die!  :)
